On-site batching plants

Provision and Management of Site-Based Batching Plants

Heidelberg Materials UK brings extensive expertise in the provision and management of on-site batching plants, ensuring the efficient, reliable, and cost-effective supply of high-quality concrete.

Why on site-batching?

On-site batching offers a number of advantages for large-scale construction projects. These benefits include reduced transport costs, continuous supply, flexible production schedules, and consistently high-quality service. Our on-site plants are capable of producing bespoke concrete mixes for a variety of applications, all certified by QSRMC, ensuring the highest standards of consistency and quality.

Proven track record

In recent years, we have supplied over one million cubic meters of concrete from on-site plants to a wide range of high-profile projects, including:

  • Hinkley Point C, Somerset
  • Thames Tideway, London

Reliable supply and project support

Our raw material supply chain is supported by Heidelberg Materials UK’s upstream aggregates, cement and GGBS production facilities. Additionally, we have a nationwide network of over 150 fixed concrete plants, providing backup capacity when needed.

For most projects, the preparation of the site is straightforward. Where required, we can supply plants with integrated steel foundations, minimising the need for complex site preparation and ensuring a smooth installation process.

From the initial planning stage through to project completion, we work closely with our clients to provide expert support on all aspects of concrete supply. This includes advice on optimal plant layout, mix designs, and concrete pumping solutions to maximise operational efficiency.

Sustainable solutions

As the UK market leader in GGBS (Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag), we can offer concrete mixes that significantly reduce the use of Portland cement, resulting in a substantial reduction in carbon emissions. Our on-site batching plants are also equipped with water recycling systems to reclaim water and aggregate from truck mixer washing, plant cleaning, and returned concrete. Additionally, we implement measures to minimise dust and noise pollution, including full plant cladding when necessary.

Efficient, Flexible, and Safe Operations

We pride ourselves on delivering fast, flexible solutions for projects across the country. Our fleet of over 20 on-site batching plants can be mobilised quickly, typically within a week, depending on the plant size. Each plant is operated by our experienced, fully trained staff, ensuring the highest of safety and quality standards, consistent with those of our static operations. Our plants can offer a range of wet batch production capacities, stretching from 60 – 150 m3 per hour, giving us the ability to meet a wide array of project scales and timelines.

Site Preparation and Requirements

Site preparation requirements will vary depending on the type and scale of the project. Our team is available to guide you through the necessary steps and advise on site-specific requirements for the installation and operation of our on-site batching plants.

Sustainable low carbon concrete solutions

Heidelberg Materials concrete can incorporate a proportion of Regen, (Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag or 'GGBS'), which is a cement replacement material, helping to produce a product that generates a much lower level of CO2 emissions than ordinary cement.

Learn more about Regen

Heidelberg Materials has developed its EcoCrete® range of low carbon concretes to make it easier to access low carbon concretes. EcoCrete® reduces the CO2 emissions associated with standard CEM I concrete by up to 85 per cent, helping contractors and clients meet their carbon reduction targets.
