Overview: Six rural road carriageway improvement schemes for Cumbria County Council
Product used: Countyfalt
Specifying Hanson’s Countyfalt to complete the carriageway works provided Cumbria County Council with a surfacing material that offers increased strength and durability without the need for follow-up surface dressing work.
The Countyfalt schemes would historically have been completed using an AC20 binder overlay, which would have been surface dressed the following year. By using Countyfalt – a one layer application – at depths of between 60mm and 80mm, Hanson Contracting provided a surfacing material that offers increased carriageway strength without the need for surfacing dressing.
The majority of the schemes were in rural locations and the existing road surface was very poor and badly affected by water run-off. Countyfalt is ideally suited to rural roads where a low textured and deformation resistant single layer/binder course treatment is required. It provides a long term, cost effective solution to any application where a binder course has been traditionally used as a surface course and subsequently surface dressed, or where a binder course is surfaced after a period of trafficking.
