MPA Restoration and Biodiversity Awards success
We are delighted to have won three top awards at this year’s Mineral Products Association (MPA) Restoration and Biodiversity Awards.
We scooped the Planned Restoration Biodiversity Award for our Birch quarry and the Landscape Scale Biodiversity Award for transforming 400 hectares of our land back to a floodplain forest and wetlands that are home to a wide variety of species at our Barton quarry in Staffordshire.
We were also a highly commended runner-up in the MPA Restoration Award for the reclamation of Wood Farm with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust at our Bubbenhall sand and gravel quarry.
In addition, our Principal Landscape Architect Dave Southgate was the proud recipient of the Butterfield trophy for personal contribution to biodiversity through his 38 years of service in the design and implementation of restoration schemes.
The MPA event showcased the best current examples of wildlife habitat creation through the operation, management and restoration of sites where essential minerals have been sourced.
“The standard of competition was extremely high, featuring a number of exceptional quarry restoration initiatives across the country,” said Head of Land and Mineral Resources Paul Williams.
“As a result, we were delighted to pick up so many accolades, with a particular ‘well done’ to Dave for his remarkable contribution to biodiversity over the years.”
The awards, held at The Royal Society in London, were hosted by broadcast journalist Sybil Ruscoe and attended by over 200 delegates.
