Refurbished Volvo L350F demonstrates sustainability in action
We have been working with SMT to refurbish a 14-year-old Volvo L350F wheeled loader at our Ribblesdale cement works in Clitheroe. The initiative is in line with our UK 2030 sustainability commitments, which include promoting a circular economy and reducing carbon emissions.
By extending the life of the L350F, we avoided the emissions and material consumption associated with the manufacture and transportation of a new diesel machine, without compromising productivity or quality. It allowed us to recycle major components, reduce waste, and make a significant contribution to our carbon reduction goals.
The refurbishment process took approximately 12 weeks to complete. The loader was stripped back to the chassis, with new hydraulic pumps, hoses, steering systems and refurbished cylinders installed to factory standards.
“Collaboration with suppliers such as SMT is crucial for achieving our sustainability goals,” said Carbon Innovation Manager, Elliot Wellbelove. “We can rely on SMT to provide emissions reduction data for rebuilt machines, which is essential for calculating environmental benefits and integrating them into our data systems.”
The refurbishment demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and innovation within the construction equipment industry, and future collaborations with SMT will focus on innovations such as electrification and hydrogen-powered machinery.
