Driver apprenticeships launched

Our new HGV driving apprenticeship scheme offers an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to kick-start a driving career in the industry, plus gain experience across business.

We’re looking for trainee HGV drivers to join our 15-month programme, where apprentices are paid to obtain their HGV Licence while gaining knowledge, skills and experience in all aspects of driving and operating one of our Cat C vehicles.

Mentor support and extensive training – including drivers’ hours legislation, tachograph procedures, transport law, working time directive, and relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation – will be provided as well as unforms and safety equipment.

To qualify, applicants must have a full UK driver’s licence as well as a good level of education in Maths and English and be customer-service focused. In return, a competitive starting salary will be offered, which will increase as programme objectives are achieved.

Successful completion of the apprenticeship concludes with a full HGV Cat C licence and MPQC/EPIC card as well as a permanent offer of employment with our company and salary of £30k+.

Clare Mayo, HR director at Hanson, said: “Our new driving apprenticeship scheme provides a foot in the door for motivated individuals, with no experience, looking to train as HGV drivers and benefit from permanent, full-time employment from day one. In return, we will benefit from additional skilled drivers to support us in delivering vital building material supplies to our customers in a timely, efficient and courteous manner.”
