The Big Sleep raises funds for The Bridge Homelessness to Hope
A group of our employees took part in The Bridge Homelessness to Hope’s Big Sleep last night.
The annual sponsored sleep out at the University of Leicester is the charity’s biggest fundraising event of the year and raises awareness of homelessness in the city.
Our involvement is part of our three-year collaboration with the charity, whose vision is for everyone in Leicester to have a place to call home and hope for the future.
We are also donating sleeping bags, flasks, overnight bags and waterproof capes for those experiencing homelessness in the city. And, members of our Syston customer service team have been volunteering in the charity’s kitchen and activity rooms as well as helping homeless people with developing their employability skills.
Jops Dann, Social Value Coordinator said: “Taking part in the Big Sleep was a real eye-opener for us all. We might imagine what it would be like to spend a night in the open air, but the reality was very different.
“It was great to be able to support the charity’s work and raise awareness of the issue of homelessness.”
The team of 42, which included 16 from our Chipping Sodbury office, raised £6,080. This total was matched by the Heidelberg Materials charity matching fund putting the team over its £10,000 fundraising target.
