New trucks will save fuel

Around a quarter of the Hanson delivery fleet will be replaced over the next 12-18 months with new trucks featuring improved fuel economy, lower emissions and higher payload.

The biggest order is for 180 eight cubic metre capacity Volvo Tridem truck mixers. Their key design feature is a drum which was developed in collaboration with manufacturer McPhee and is 15 per cent lighter than a conventional mixer meaning it can carry more product and reduce road journeys. The trucks also have a rear steering axle, which makes them more manoeuvrable both on the road and on delivery sites, a glass panel in the door for increased visibility and the latest Euro 6 low emission engines.

Also coming into the fleet are 60 articulated units for carrying aggregates and asphalt which feature the non-tipping moving floor trailers, and a new design of tanker trailer for the cement fleet which can carry an additional two tonnes of product by dispensing with the donkey engine used to discharge the material.
